First Post-Marathon Run

Whew! Today was a slow, slow day at work. I guess summer is officially here and if I remember correctly, last year around this time I was really bored too. The good thing is that the down time enabled me to have some more study time so that I wasn't locked in to spending my whole evening on a practice test. I was able to complete 3 of 4 sections before I left work.

I went to assist with the No Boundaries weekday workout, a 40 minute run. This was a wonderful opportunity for me because I knew that I needed to get in a run and this put me accountable for doing so. One person was there from the group, Diane, so she and took off for our 5 minute warm up walk and then headed toward down toward the park to begin our 40 minute run. While I'm very familiar with Cleveland Park and the area downtown, from Cleveland Steet I had to wing the route. While a recovery run is supposed to be slow and easy, mine was anything but easy. The first mile is always difficult for me; it seems to take me about 15 minutes or so to really get in my groove. We wound our way through Cleveland Park to Falls Park and up to University Ridge. The hill beside the park got me and I had to stop and walk for a few seconds. I told Diane that I would catch up and I did. The heat and humidity was definitely a factor. At one point, I had to tell myself that I had just completed a marathon, there was no way I was going to stop on a 40 minute run. We logged 3.35 miles in 40 minutes. Diane was happy and said it was a good pace for her. I'm glad because anything faster and I may have tossed my lunch.

Got home, grabbed a quick bite and then settled in to complete the last section of practice test. Scored a 159. If nothing else, I am consistent. This would at least put me in the median at USC and in the upper 25% at Charleston, Charlotte, Stetson and Cumberland. Not even on the map at Alabama, though. So, come on 163!!!

Jeff just called and informed me that his grandmother passed away. Bea was a wonderful woman and we just celebrated her 90th birthday in March. She lived a long, wonderful life and she will truly be missed. I know that this will be hard on Jeff because Bea was basically his mother figure. One of the things I appreciated the most about her was that she never made be feel uncomfortable or awkward, but always made me feel like part of the family. I know she's in heaven now with Jeff's grandfather, celebrating their reunion. I am blessed to have known her.

Hopefully, I'll be able to get some sleep tonight. Last night's Stanley Cup game going into 3 OTs affected my sleep in a really negative way. Going to sleep at 1:15 am is WAY past my bedtime.
