Connecticut Run

Flew into NY yesterday after an easy flight from Charlotte. I worked on a practice test on the plan and while waiting for Jeff to get the rental car. It took about an hour and 40 minutes just at Budget to get the car because their system was down. But, at least I redeemed myself and saw how that 1 day off from studying helped. I had a 162 on this practice test.

After we got the car, we headed into Connecticut and made a stop at Stew Leonard's, the world's largest diary store. We were like kids in a candy store (but it was a grocery store) and had a lot of fun going through the aisles, tasting the samples (we passed on the salmon burgers) and watching the "show" in the dairy aisle. I'll post pictures after we get home. I had some pichastio yogurt (yum!) and then we had a burger and split an ear of steamed corn for lunch. We then headed to Statford via Westport, Southport and Fairfield. The day was beautiful and we wanted to relax as much as possible before the services begin later today. After relaxing, catching up on emails and surfing the net, we went for a late dinner to Uno's Chicago Grill. They actually had a kiosk in the front lobby where you could select their menu and choose an item and up pops all its nutritional information. I love that and wish every restaurant were required to have one.

So, we got up this morning, threw on our running clothes and took a brief drive over to Short Beach. I had found a route on mapmyrun earlier in the week:

While the temperature was only about 78 degrees, the humidity made it feel much warmer. The first mile felt good with good breath control. The second mile was a little tougher, I was sweating a lot and beginning to feel the cheese bagel I had half of in the car creep up on me. At 2.05, I made a quick stop at the car to drink a little bit of water. We would now be running back up Prospect to Cove and run along the Sound. As I turned the corner on Cove, the view was beautiful. There were ferries in the water going to and from NY. I was longing for an ocean breeze, but there wasn't one. I fought boughts of nausea I'm sure were brought on by the heat and humidity. As I turned around at the end of Cove, the water looked like their were millions of diamonds twinkling on the top. That's one of my favorite times - when there are sparkles everywhere. Made it back to the car and went a few more steps to get in a full 4 miles. I also made a decision that this will be my last weekend run so late in the morning. Looks like I'll be out at 5:30 from this point on to try and beat some of the heat.

We are back at the hotel, getting ready to go to Bea's services. Today will be a hard, but inspirational, day for everyone. I am blessed to have known Bea and am thankful for the role she played in Jeff's life. She will forever be loved and missed.
